2ª Call para 7ª edição do Building Global Innovators

Building Global Innovators (BGI) is a Technology Transfer Accelerator (TTA), led by the University Institute of Lisbon (IUL) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), MIT Portugal, Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation and Martin Trust Center For Entrepreneurship.

The 2nd and Last Call for the 7th edition ends on June 5, 2016 and focuses on four sectors:

1. Medical devices & Health IT
2. Smart cities and Industry 4.0 solutions
3. Enterprise IT & Smart data
4. Water economy.

More information on the areas and business projects covered in each of these 4 sectors can be found in the regulations available at www.mitportugal-bgi.org. The deadline for the 1st phase of applications ended on April 30 and a maximum of 16 business projects will be selected, which will receive 1,150 hours of specialized and structured support estimated at 1 million euros. Additionally, they will have 12 weeks of mentoring in risk analysis and “Go to Market Plans” that precede the approach to investors and the global market. Finally, one of these will be eligible for a venture capital investment of € 100,000 contributed by the financial partner of this initiative, Caixa Capital.

Headquartered in Lisbon and Cambridge (Massachusetts, USA), BGI is a technology accelerator whose goal is to foster the internationalization and growth of innovative and entrepreneurial technology businesses. Its activity combines the design of exclusive bootcamps and a permanent accompaniment up to 5 years. In a university context, BGI is inserted in the value chain, downstream of the GAPI’s and OTICs and upstream of the market, which includes seed and early stage investors.

In the last six editions, BGI has accelerated 117 business projects, 67% of which are active, collecting more than 70 million euros in financing, 69% of venture capital. This investment allowed the creation of more than 4 hundreds of highly qualified jobs in Portugal.

Since this accelerator is an internationally consolidated brand – from which about 40% of the applications come from – a quality seal is given to the projects it supports both at national level and in different geographies.
