UPTEC promotes “Future Of Computing”

From June 25 to 29, UPTEC – Science and Technology Park of University of Porto hosts an event that will bring together experts to teach us about the possible futures of computation, with a special focus on trying to understand the trends, the technologies and challenges that computation will face in the next 5 to 50 years.

For the first time ever in Portugal, Future of Computing will promote the debate on the evolution and future perspectives of computing. The event will gather industry’s international speakers, with representatives from Microsoft, and Academia, with researchers from University of Zurich (Switzerland), Jena and Heidelberg (Germany), Porto and Lisbon (Portugal), among others. Quantum, neuromorphic, photonic, chemical and biological computation will be some topics under debate.

“We hope that this school can provide participants with a productive combination of historical perspectives, accurate technical knowledge and insightful outlooks about the world of computation. This school aims to host an environment that combines technical accuracy and speculation and, in the process, inspire participants to imagine the future of computation.”, says Cláudia Ribeiro da Silva, Tech Business Developer at UPTEC and coordinator at Future of Computing.

As part of UPTEC Schools, the main goal of this initiave, taking place at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, is to encourage industry participants (specially from startups) to attempt larger and more disruptive steps toward the future of computation. Inspire the research community to address new lines of research and to enumerate possible themes around which Academia can design and develop new courses/degrees are also some objectives of the Future of Computing.

The applications are open until April 15 here. The organization will then select the 200 candidates that match the technical profile of the school and invite them individually to register for the school.
